Fall back in your mind to Nazareth.
See Mary there as a teenage virgin in a dusty small town of insignificance. She goes about her day dutifully doing what’s laid before her and takes time to turn toward Almighty God regularly in adoration and devotion. She knows nothing else. She “knows” no one else and she is free. You can nearly perceive her breathlessness as the mighty angel Gabriel descends and unfurls his heavenly glory before this humble maiden of lowly birth.Certainly the young woman knows God as mystical love and provider, but now she’s being provided with the full weight of the cross with her “yes.” You and I are alike. We are both like Mary. We will never bear the Son of God, remain perpetually virgin or be rightly referenced as the Mother of God. What we can share in is that all generations could call us blessed. You see, you have the capacity for sainthood and a much greater unity with Him then you’re choosing to live. You have the ability to loose more of yourself and gain more of Him choice by choice. Every time you populate your color coded calendar with more “to do” you sacrifice more of the “to be.” You literally color code and schedule Him straight out of your busy life. So, stop it. Stop it and savor this prayer… Father, You have bestowed on each human person the dignity of being created in Your own image and likeness — a dignity that I too often ignore in myself and in others. I’ve made a resolution to believe in this dignity and to treat my body with the care it deserves so that I may better serve You and Your Kingdom. I do not make this choice out of vanity or selfishness, but out of humility and love. I offer up my efforts today, in union with Christ’s most holy Sacrifice, for the salvation of souls and to make reparation for sin. I ask that You provide me with peace, strength, and endurance to complete this practice. I ask this in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. You are blessed, you daughter of the King, loved by Christ, and in your fidelity this can be from generation to generation. Enter this Solemnity with great rejoicing. Feel the pulse of exaltation when in God’s favor as the Blessed Virgin Mary is and was. I’d love to chat with you about how to come out of your own personal darkness and into the light this time of year.
